Black on white paper, red serial number, with two lovely vignettes. Note the instructive clause in the RN imprint reads “Good when the amount does not exceed $100.” The tax on CDs was 2¢ for amounts up to $100, and 5¢ for higher amounts. According to Bob Hohertz’s 2025 article in The American Revenuer, the clause “was intended to remind bankers of this.” As this CD was for $150, an additional 3¢ tax was owed, thus the addition of the 3¢ revenue stamp (R16c).
Light creases only visible on the back. Typical cut cancel is unobtrusive.
