Certificiate of Deposit for $200 on an instrument stamped with the legend reads “Good when the amout does not exceed $100. To be in compliance with the law, this instrument was liable to additional 3¢ tax. This was typically remedied with the application of a 3¢ adhesive revenue stamp as seen on other examples of this CD. Thus, an illegal usage vis à vis underpayment.
Black on semi-transparent, thin vellum-like paper with printed red serial number. Beautiful vignettes of a railroading and coastline scene, and a minor vignette of a female figurehead.
Cut cancellation is not immediately apparent. Typical small faults (creases, toning at left, tiny corner fault mentioned for accuracy).
