A rare intact set of a George Tagliabou hydrometer kit for measuring proof of distilled spirits. The set includes five hydrometers, each with an enclosed Standard Hydrometer Internal Revenue stamp and sequentially lettered serial numbers A — E. Each of the hydrometers has a different measurement scale. Also includes the original copper beaker with integral mercury thermometer and wooden stacking tray — all in a beautiful walnut case.
Three stamps Series 1889, one Series 1899, one Series 1909. Patent notices on the hydrometers read Percents of proof spirit at 60º Fahr. G. Tagliabue, N.Y. Pat. Oct. 16th, 1866. The set will be accompanied by a printout of the patent.
Hydrometers and thermometer are completely intact, no chips or breaks. Box has two brass hook latches, and brass strap buttons on either side. Central hasp is missing the lower portion.
