A rarely seen stamp
Red (salmon) and black on violet silk paper with red serial numbers, Martin Van Buren portrait. Frame printed by Continental Bank Note Co., black portions by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. “TAX PAID STAMP” inscription in the top portion of the frame.
Punched remainder, unused but pre-signed by the tax collector H.B. Rowlson. Old-time repairs conceal most of the remainder punches.
