Printed by American Bank Note Company, black on tinted and watermarked paper — both of which are quite remarkable:

The tint design is composed of intersecting wavy lines, within which the words “NEW YORK PRODUCE EXCHANGE BANK” are repeated. This pattern forms ovals containing the abbreviation NYPEB. See the closeup and false color images for detail.

The watermark design occupies the entire area of the check and can be seen in the main image. It’s composed of an outer chain-patterned border, an inner border of triangular points, and the two-line inscription “BROWN BROTHERS NEW YORK.”

Small corner fault. A scarce check.
