St. Louis, MO
1886
$20.00
Black on white paper tinted with intersecting wavy blue lines forming a diamond plate pattern. Red manuscript notations, purple oval cashier’s handstamp. A high value draft written for $14,600 as a loan to six parties, the amounts allocated to each one annotated on the face of the check.
At the time this check was written (1886) the 2¢ bank check tax had been repealed for just over three years. Thus, a late usage of a taxed check whereby the tax was no longer due.
Typical spindle cut cancelation well clear of the RN imprint.
