This vignette finds an exact match to the Lincoln heads used for the 40 lb tobacco stamp of 1872 (Springer TF91A) produced by Continental. See the second image for comparison.
Nearly square at 122 x 129 mm, this is one of the most delightful Lincoln engravings there is, as the die sinkage produced a raised “bubble” on which the portrait resides. Additionally, the sinkage area has a smoother texture than the surrounding card.
