Lincoln Large Die Vignette Essay for Springer TF91 40 lb Tobacco Stamp, Unlisted — SOLD ROMPEX 5-9-26

Lincoln vignette essay, die sunk on India on card. Huge proportions: 9″ x 12″. I’ve been collecting engraved Lincoln vignettes since the mid 1990s and have never before seen this vignette presented in this large die proof format. [In the late 1990s I made the connection between this vignette and its use on the 40 pound tobacco stamp of 1872 (Springer TF91), and published my findings on the Museum of U.S. Essays & Proofs website.]

The India paper and the print itself are in superb condition. Card has toning along edges, and a few toning spots. Overall XF condition. A choice item for the Lincoln collector, or as an 1872 tobacco stamp collateral item.
