$100.00
Listed in Springer, 7th Edition. The following is excerpted from my article on the Johnson’s Box labels published in a 1998 issue of The Rail Splitter. The full article can be viewed or downloaded from this link.
J.H. Johnson, as listed in McElroy’s Philadelphia City Directory for 1865, was a stationer located at No. 7 North 10th Street. Johnson maintained a “Free P.O. Box” at his establishment, offering free delivery of letters to the Post Office located several blocks away. Apparently, he attached these labels to items being mailed from his place of business.
Excellent condition. Just the slightest scuff in the right margin, noted for accuracy. HR
