Plate essay, black on blue surface-tinted paper. That the paper tinted on the face is evident from viewing the back of the essay. This essay, and variants printed on numerous types of colored or tinted papers, were experimental printings aimed at preventing postage stamp reuse. It is presumed that the tint color is fugitive (water-soluble), although this has never been tested. Superb condition. SCV $275
