Types of Collectible Checks

We stock all manner of 19th and early 20th-century bank checks, drafts, certificates of deposit, promissory notes, and receipts printed on check-sized paper. “Checks” for short.

Use the Revenue Stamped Paper menu to find checks with imprinted revenues (RN) or adhesives (R). When shopping for RN-imprinted items, Filters let you narrow your search byRN Type, State, and City. There’s also a checkbox for displaying only unused checks.

Checks without stamps are located under the Ephemera menu and there are several categories to choose from:

• Vignetted — unstamped but with pictorial vignettes including railroading scenes, allegorical figures, animals and natural scenery, buildings, factories, and more

• Plain — checks, receipts, etc. with artistic typography, or issued from interesting or historic locations

• Indian Territory — checks and promissory notes bearing town names in an area of Oklahoma called “Indian Territory” prior to statehood

• 1930s Bank Check Tax — a little known area of check collecting, where the government reinstated the 2¢ bank check tax and increased the amount drawn on each check by 2¢. The deduction was usually indicated on the face of the check with a handstamp, not with revenue stamps.
