Plate essay, dull red-violet on white bond overprinted with bands of graduated red lines. It is believed that this essay, along with printings on various colored or tinted papers, were experiments aimed at preventing postage stamp reuse. It is presumed that the red bands were printed using a fugitive (water-soluble) ink, although this has never been tested. Superb condition. SCV $350
